Your account details, the schedule you set, the Messages you write, and the Recipients you name along with their contact details. We also keep an audit trail of settings changes, check-ins and escalation actions, including the IP address and browser the action came from.
Message content is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM under a key held by the server. It is deliberately not end-to-end encrypted, and we will not describe it that way: delivery happens after you have stopped responding, so the server has to be able to decrypt without you. Anyone with both the database and that key could read your Messages. Message content is never shown in any list in the app, and never appears in a delivery trail.
Only the Recipients you name, and only when an escalation reaches the delivery stage or you send them a verification or test message yourself. We do not sell data and we do not use it for advertising.
These providers process data on our behalf:
Text messages and phone calls are optional and are never required. RelayVault runs on email: you can decline them, or stop them later, and still create an account, use every feature, and be listed as an emergency contact. We do not ask for a mobile number at sign-up, and no feature is withheld from an account that never gives one.
Mobile numbers are used only to deliver the check-in and escalation alerts you have turned on. We do not sell them, and we do not share them with third parties for marketing or lead generation. They are passed only to the telecoms provider that carries the message.
Message frequency varies and follows your own check-in schedule: someone who checks in on time receives no texts at all, and a missed check-in produces a small number of alerts spread across the escalation timings you configured. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to stop all texts to that number, START to resume, or HELP for help. Our text message program page describes what is sent, how often, and how to stop it.
We record the number of API requests made by each account, the route, and whether a request was rate limited. This is used to keep the service available and to identify abuse. It is retained for three months and is not linked to Message content.
Deleting your account erases it. It removes your Messages, Recipients, schedule and escalation history, and it disarms the switch immediately — a deleted account cannot deliver anything. Your Clerk sign-in is removed afterwards. This cannot be undone, and we cannot recover a deleted account.
Audit log entries are retained where they are attached to an escalation involving someone else, with your account reference removed.
